social services with marginalized groups

Hannes Hölz, former ARSP volunteer at Trinity Presbyterian Church in New York City

ARSP works with groups that are marginalized in the United States today. Some of these groups, such as the mentally ill, were also victims during the Nazi regime. In showing solidarity with groups that are discriminated against, ARSP contributes to social peace.

"Since 1976, 15 young people from ARSP have done a service at our little church in midtown Manhattan. The children of our church and community are mostly black, Hispanic, and Asian American, and from poor families. The kids have their worlds enlarged and enriched by contact with Europeans, and the ARSP volunteers learn much, too. ... Idealistic youth often felt they were without prejudice. But several found out that racial and ethnic sensitivities are complicated and were forced to confront their own contradictions."

Reverend Robert Helm, Trinity Presbyterian Church, New York
